User Data Deletion

Butter Technology Holdings ("Butter") — a Wyoming C Corporation, 1309 Coffeen Avenue STE 1200, Sheridan, Wyoming 82801, United States — respects your right to control your personal data. This page explains how to request deletion of data we hold about you across our Services, including ButterPOS, ButterStore, ButterPay, ButterCX, Bosku, and our WhatsApp Business Platform (Meta WhatsApp Cloud API) integration. Indonesian operations are conducted under license by PT Butter Teknologi Group; deletion requests are processed jointly by both entities to ensure your data is removed from systems in both jurisdictions. This page works together with our Privacy Policy.

Who this page is for

  • Merchants — businesses that use Butter, including those who connected a WhatsApp Business Account to Butter.
  • End customers of a merchant — people who messaged, or were messaged by, a business that uses Butter on WhatsApp. See the dedicated section below.

What gets deleted

When you submit a verified deletion request, we will delete the data we hold about you, which may include:

  • Your account profile and login credentials.
  • Personal information you provided (name, email, phone number, business details).
  • WhatsApp messaging records and conversation history — message content, customer phone numbers, customer profile names, and media (images/documents) — processed by Butter on a merchant's behalf.
  • WhatsApp Business access tokens and connection details (such as WABA ID, phone number ID, and Meta Business ID) that Meta shared with our application for your account.
  • Usage logs and analytics tied to your account.

What we may retain

We may retain a limited subset of information where required by law or for legitimate business purposes, including:

  • Transaction and tax records required under Indonesian financial regulations.
  • Anonymized or aggregated data that cannot reasonably be linked back to you.
  • Records necessary to defend against legal claims or to comply with court orders.

How to request deletion

Option 1 — Email request (recommended)

Send an email to privacy@buildwithbutter.com from the email address associated with your Butter account. Include the following:

  • Subject line: "User Data Deletion Request"
  • The product(s) you use (e.g., ButterCX, ButterPOS).
  • The email or phone number associated with your account.
  • If applicable, the WhatsApp Business phone number or Meta Business Account ID.

Option 2 — In-product

If your product has account settings, you can delete your account directly from the Settings → Account → Delete Account menu. Merchants can also disconnect the WhatsApp integration from Settings → Integrations → WhatsApp → Disconnect, which revokes our access token and triggers deletion of the associated WhatsApp data. Either action starts the same deletion process.

What happens after you request deletion

  1. We acknowledge your request within 5 business days.
  2. If needed, we ask you to verify that you are the account holder (see Verification below).
  3. We revoke any WhatsApp Business access tokens and delete the associated Platform Data from our systems and from our sub-processors (AWS, Better Stack, and Pusher), subject to the limited exceptions under "What we may retain."
  4. We complete deletion within 30 days, except where a longer period is required by law.
  5. We notify you by email when deletion is complete.

Verification

To protect against fraudulent requests, we may ask you to verify your identity before processing a deletion request. We will only ask for information necessary to confirm you are the account holder.

If you are an end customer of a Butter merchant

If you received a WhatsApp message from a business that uses Butter, or messaged such a business, and you want your contact details and conversation deleted, you have options:

  • Reply STOP to the conversation, or contact the business directly — the business (the merchant) controls its own customer list and can remove you.
  • Email privacy@buildwithbutter.com with the WhatsApp phone number you used and, if you know it, the name of the business. We will forward your request to the relevant merchant and assist with deletion of any data we hold as their processor.
